Given how stressful preparing for these exams are I decided to add a short article here on ways to reduce and deal with stress.

    Stress: Reduce it

When your body tells you are under stress, take stock of your lifestyle. Try to think through the causes of your stress. They may be pressure of work, a difficult boss, marital problems, financial worries, peer pressures or many other things.

For serious problems you may need urgent counselling and professional advice - there are many people who can help you.

If you are under stress you could try some of the following:

    Go for a relaxing holiday

    • Forget about work think about your future.

    Reorganise your lifestyle

    • You may need to change your environment - your job, your own or city.
    • You may need to get away from your peers if their social pressures are too great.
    • You may need to change your accommodation if it is unsatisfactory .

    Make time to relax

    • Take control of your life and budget your time for periods of relaxation. Use this time for reading, listening to music, meditating, or just to plan your next day. Some people relax by drawing or painting, gardening or doing craft work.
    • Learn relaxation methods to ease tense muscles.

    Exercise regularly

    ·         Take up a sport you enjoy such as golf, tennis, fishing, boating or swimming.

    ·         You may prefer jogging or running, or working out in a gymnasium.

    ·         Go for long walks. . If you are not an active sportsperson, follow a sport you enjoy watching.

Make an effort to have fun

    ·         Do more of the things you enjoy doing most. Join clubs or take up activities that interest you.

    ·         Try to plan your work better and budget times for fun.

    ·         Don't take life too seriously - try to turn tense situations into games or challenges.

    Keep healthy

    • Make sure you have a sensible, healthy diet with plenty of whole grain foods, fresh fruit and vegetables.
    • Aim for moderation in all things. Restrict your intake of caffeine (in coffee and tea), be aware of the dangers of smoking, and don't abuse alcohol or drugs. (Tranquillisers should be taken only under medical advice.)
    • There are some excellent stress management programmes so don't hesitate to get professional advice if you need help.

    Have a great day!
