The following is a short article I have included on some advice for writing an essay:

• Write for easy reading - Keep it simple and lively. Most people are lazy readers, so if you want to write to be read follow these simple rules.
• Before you start think about your readers - What would they be interested in? Write to arouse their interest and stir their imagination.
• Plan and outline - Prepare a plan and outline of what you want to say. Put your main points in logical order so that your ideas flow from one point to the next.
• Your opening paragraph - Catch your readers attention with a bold statement or a story. Make them want to read on.
• First a rough draft - Amplify your outline- put 'flesh on the bones' Pretend you are talking to your readers as you write. The important thing is to get your ideas down.
• Polish your script - Be prepared to write and rewrite several times until it flows smoothly.
• Write crisply - Use simple words and short sentences; make your writing lively. Use strong. positive words and active verbs; Be enthusiastic. Share your emotions; write to express not to impress. Write as you would speak. Develop your own style. (meaning is more important than style); Write about people. Tell stories, relate anecdotes and share experiences; use dialogue. Quotation marks attract attention, so use dialogue to emphasize special points. Invent people - invent conversations to add variety to your writing.
• Paragraphs - vary the length, but generally keep them short.
• Lively pages - leave plenty of white space to break up the text. There is nothing more daunting than a book or report with long chapters made up with long paragraphs.
• Edit...edit...edit - Remove all unnecessary words and phrases, jargon and clichés. Make sure your meanings are clear and there are no ambiguous statements. Be ruthless - chop and change and rearrange statements until your writing sounds write to your ear. Check and re-check spelling, grammar and punctuation.
• Your final draft - When you are satisfied give your draft to a competent person to proofread and offer comments and criticisms. With their fresh approach, they may find errors and omissions.

I thought I would add some time saving tips on this Page:

• Are you sure you know what your job really is - your responsibilities and your duties?
• Check your work load - list inessential jobs and time wasting procedures.
• Become conscious of time, without undue anxiety.
• Constantly plan your work.
• Strive for goals and objectives.
• Look for techniques that best suit your style of work.
• Cut red tape to a minimum.
• Identify your peak working hours and use them well.
• Commit yourself to responsible tasks.
• Try to get your priorities right - important jobs first.
• Practice making fast decisions.
• Don't become a perfectionist.
• Sift and sort incoming post fast, in priority order.
• Action a letter the first time you pick it up.
• Keep model letters for routine replies.
• Computerize lists for commonly used addresses.
• Index commonly used fax and telephone numbers.
• Do not file useless information.
• Develop a reliable filing and retrieval system.
• Try to complete one job at a time.
• Do not put jobs off - complete them as soon as you have the facts.
• Keep you desk clear of clutter.
• To overcome procrastination, break big jobs into segments, set deadlines, tell people about them and start work.
• Cultivate systematic habits.
• List working procedures, rules and policies to be followed.
• Learn to read fast and efficiently.
• Identify information rich sources and use abstracting and review services.
